It’s that time of year again. (Er how many times have we started a blog with that sentence recently?!) Yes…Christmas party season. A time for pushing the desks back, re-applying your make up in the staff toilets and cringing as you watch your manager cutting mulled wine-fuelled shapes when really he should be cutting…er...down on the mulled wine…
But here at Gateway Media we almost ENJOYED ourselves with minimal damage.
Friday began with snow - lots of it. But even the threat of train and bus issues could not keep the near on one hundred City Gateway and Gateway Media workers away from 15 Heron Quays. By 2pm we had opened our Secret Santa presents, by 3pm we were in teams arguing about who was going to dive face first into flour, and by 4pm Gateway Media’s Account Manager, Noah, was almost fully clothed again after being mostly naked for the past two hours. THE ALCOHOL WAS NOT EVEN SERVED UNTIL 7.30PM.
After more games, including a dance competition, Singstar contest and fashion show, we sat down at the decorated dining tables for a civilised Christmas roast dinner provided by Flavour Gateway. Entertainment during the meal arrived in the form of comedic videos starring City Gateway staff, filmed by Shaal Karim.
After a small Rest-and-Digest/Check-Facebook break we made our way over to the Cruising Association (not what you think, don’t get excited) in Limehouse to get a little bit tipsy and to tell our co-workers what we really think of them (the usual tradition). By 9pm everyone was buying (or acquiring for free) doubles, and naturally seeing double. The dancefloor was full with all sorts of unmentionable/unrecognisable routines and all sorts of unmentionable/unrecognisable liquids. (Ok ok, only the odd splash of beer. Our IT department were really going for it.)
All in all I think we can safely say that a great time was had by all. Perhaps with the exception of Daniel Jumbo who had a hard time convincing anyone to pay £1 for the cloakroom. Sorry Daniel - your acting skills just weren’t up to scratch!
